With hurricane season upon us (hurricane Harvey and now hurricane Irma), many people are trying to save some of their most important possessions; they are hoping these possessions do not get destroyed by the hurricane!

What one possession would leave you devastated if it was lost or destroyed?  Why is it so significant to you? Explain.

  1. I can think of many possessions that would leave me feeling a little sad. But if there was one item that would devastate me the most if I lost it would be my bed. I would be very upset because I find my bed very comfortable and a lot of the time, it helps me relax my brain, whatever it was that was stressing me out. My bed is very significant to me because I have had it since I was born and I love it!

  3. I would have to say that if I lost one thing in a hurricane that would leave me devastated and with a big problem, it would be my passport. I say this because, sure my phone and other objects are a big part of my life, but losing your passport means losing your ID, and your way of getting around if maybe you are trying to leave the hurricane by going to another country, and i mean, who doesn't love their passport pictures?

  4. For me it would be my bike because I love using it. I take my bike everyday to school and boy does it help. Even tho I live in dorval, I still arrive to school early plus Its wat faster and cheaper than the bus. I would be devastated to hear that I have to buy a new bike because bikes are expensive, especially the good ones and my bike is one of the good ones. Importantly it could help me in the future to move around and get places.:)

    1. I cannot disagree, my bike is a very valuable possession to me. It allows me to ride wherever and whenever I want to and I have loads of fun with it. Thank you for bringing up the idea.:P

    2. i completely know what you mean. i take my bike everywhere that is biking distance if i lost my bike i would lose a large way of transportation.

    3. A bike would be great for transport after a hurricane and brings back memories good idea.

  5. For me it would be my pet cat. Sure she might be afraid of everything including her own shadow (true story), but she's like family to me. She always comes around us and whenever I take care of her, I have a satisfying feeling inside of me. Whenever I pet her, she always rolls around and it just makes it hilarious to watch. She is also adorable, especially in the eyes and the belly. Plus she always stalks up on you, like right now.

  6. My most pride possession is my phone. Even though it's an old Android I use it for just about everything. It's how I stay in touch with my many relatives who live across the world. I use it to stream hundreds of movies on Netflix. If I lost it I would most likely be extremely bored and not have anything to do. In the setting of a hurricane I would need a phone to call my friends and ask them where they are.If I don't have my phone my life would be terrible.

    1. Good points but im pretty sure if you are in a hurricane you would not get very bored since well, hurricane. But yeah like i said before good points, contacting friends and family is important

    2. Smart, without your phone you would loose contact with everyone and loose the progress in your games.

  7. as i understand a lot of people must be writing about their electronics, I would choose to save my pillow. my pillow is the one thing that i use everyday that doesnt constantly need fixing, repairing, maintenance or responsibility. (other than washing it of course) my pillow is the one thing i love to see when i finally arrive home from a long day at school or work. i absolutely love the feeling of such soft and scented fabric against my face, and it's that feeling that helps me sleep every night. I could use my pillow for so many more purposes than just sleeping. I could use it to rest my back or any other part of my body, i could store food inside, i can use the soft thing inside if ever im in a bad situation. there are so many things a pillow can be used for! If there were a hurricane or any natural disaster, the first thing I would think of grabbing out of my house before we evacuate would be my pillow.

    1. I like how you chose something very different from everyone else and didn't just say I would take my phone. I would probably take my pillow as my second choice too. You also made some very valid points why taking a pillow would be a good choice.

    2. Saving your pillow is a very good choice. I'd probably chose the same if I had multiple things to save. Great blog!

    3. I agree with you. I never would have thought of that and it's a really unique idea!

  8. If ever a hurricane came through Montreal the one thing I would grab would be my dog. My dog, Scotty, is a West Highland Terrier. He’s a small, white, fluffy dog that will follow you everywhere you go. My family has had Scotty for seven years now and he’s truly a part of the family. When I’m feeling sad or sick I go sick next to him on the couch and he cuddles up right next to me. Just the feeling of having him next to me instantly makes me feel better and more secure. My dog is such an important person in my life and I can’t imagine what I would do without him.

  9. If I could only save one thing, it’d probably be my desktop computer. As immobile as it might seem, I’d say it’s worth it because of how important it is to me. Since I usually don’t like moving that much, I’ll often find myself spending my days(and nights) online. Thanks to my computer, I can communicate with family and friends anywhere in the world, can watch videos of any topic I choose, and can play any game with anyone I wish, and can now type at a pace up to ~75 WPM (words per minute). I’ve met countless awesome people online thanks to my computer, and wouldn’t be any happier without it. I'd be a completely different person without it.

  10. I have read a few peoples before writing mine I know lost of people enjoy their phone, but personally I would same my dog.  I know this is another popular choice from people, but dogs are living beings too.  As well my dog is very important to me and is around everyday. I don't really know what I would do without him, since he is always there for me. I would also save him because he wouldn't be able to save himself because he is accustomed to being cared for and would probable not be able to survive on his own.  At the same time thought I could probably find a ton of reasons to pick one of my electronic or inanimate objects, but I living being is much more meaningful and important than any object.

  11. If a hurricane ever occurred in Montreal, the first thing that I would save is my bed. I would save my bed because it is by far the most comfortable thing ever, besides my pyjamas. Ive had my bed for about 5 years now, and I LOVE IT. It is comfy and cushiony and soft.

  12. If a hurricane ever came through Montreal, I would save my blanket. My blanket is so fluffy and warm and i walk around my house wearing it and if I had it with be it would have a comforting feeling. I'm always finding myself with that blanket. And if I lost everything else, I would still have a humble feeling of my room and house.

  13. One possession that would leave me devastated if I lost it would be my cat. My cat’s name is Noireau and he is very fat. Noireau has been apart of my family for about two and a half years now. He is now 6 years old. We got Noireau through a family friend a few months after our old cat was put down at the age of 17. Noireau had been in a home for a few months all alone along with many other cats after their owner had passed away. We went to go see the cats and as soon as we walked into the house, Noireau had ran right up to us and started meowing and purring and rubbing his head against us. Noireau has always been a very very social cat during the course of time he has lived with us. As much as some may be opposed to the idea of this, my cat talks. I have had a few friends who have had multiple conversations with him. I even have a friend who comes over just so she can talk with my cat. Noireau also really likes to eat lettuce as well as to roll around in catnip. He also enjoys drinking milk and playing with those little helicopter leaves from outside. He also really enjoys playing with pieces of paper, cardboard boxes, plastic bags, school bags, suitcases as well as empty boxes of kraft dinner. I have gotten very attached to this cat over the past two years. He sleeps with me at night and I sometimes have trouble sleeping when he isn’t on my pillow sleeping. He likes to sit in our living room window during the course of the afternoon as the window is in direct sunlight and he really seems to enjoy sunbathing. Whenever he sees me walking up the street after school from what we call his window, he runs to the front door and starts to meow hysterically until I pet him. He also really enjoys sitting on the counter and staring at me while I brush my teeth. It would be devastating if I lost Noireau as Noireau is a one of a kind cat. There is no other cat quite like him out there.

  14. A possession that I would be devastated to have destroyed is my childhood photo album. Any other object i can buy again, however if I lose those photos, there is no way to ever get them back. These pictures are important to me because they are unique, and by looking at them I remember certain parts of my life that I would have otherwise forgotten about. I have pictures of me as a baby, as a little kid with my friends, and when I first started kindergarten. It’s sort of like this album is preserving memories of me, and I would be very sad if it got destroyed, because all those memories would be lost.

  15. If I had only one thing to save from a hurricane, I would chose my ring. My ring is something I were everyday. It has a small sapphire with 4 tiny crystals surrounding it. It was given by my godparents at my first communion. I would save it over everything because it represents something important to me. It reminds me to live life to the fullest, be true to yourself, and always have hope. I would be absolutely heartbroken if I it ever got destroyed. It's as if all hope had been lost.

  16. A possession I would be devastated to lose in a hurricane would be all of my childhood pictures. Each and every picture reminds me of a memory I had as a child... not the ones when I was a baby but those of when I was in elementary. If I lost these pictures I would not be able to replace them and we have so many pictures I want to keep forever. Losing these pictures would be like losing a part of my childhood because when I look at these pictures that is when I start to remember the things that happened at that time. I would be extremely sad if I lost all my childhood pictures...

  17. When i look around my room i see many things that mean a lot to me, but nothing i would save. Every possession in my life that i have and love, i don't need. Nothing is worth more than the lives of my family or my puppy. They mean more to me then any possession ever could. I think possessions can always be replaced (in some way) but you can never get back a loved one if you lost them.

  18. The possession that I would be devastated if i lost would be my pin collection. Most are pins that I have collected through my travels, whether with Guides, my family or on my own. I have at least 50 pins from all over. There's this one that I absolutely adore, its the one I earned alongside my unit from the Girl Guides of Canada office for our dedication to Teamwork. This collection shows where I've been. Though it may seem silly, they also reminded me of lessons I learned on the way. My pins from Alberta remind me of being open to new experiences. The ones from other countries also show me all the places I have left to discover. Though it may sound cheesy, these little trinkets made in a factory for 25 cents are a symbol of all I have to look forward to discovering and I would be devastated if I lost them.

  19. The possession that isn’t a living thing in which I would save is a little small jade ornament that I have. It was given by my cousin in china and I still remember that trip. Despite me and my brother had different looking jade pieces, we both forgot which jade piece was ours. Thought I’m pretty sure that mine was a calabash looking shape. It’s smaller than the other one that looks like Buddha.

  20. 14 years ago, my grandmother fostered a dream that she would one day bring me to Israel. 14 years later, my grandmother’s dream came true, and I was lucky enough to go on a beautiful trip to Israel with my grandmother and my dad. Originally cancelled due to my grandfather's loss to his battle against cancer, this trip served as a spiritual trip, but also as a tribute to my wonderful grandfather, who would have loved to come. On the trip, a week deep, I bought a beautiful necklace, in a sketchy market, called a “Chai”, meaning life in Hebrew. This necklace means so much to me, as it is the essence of the beautiful trip, and a beautiful person who would have loved to be there with me. If a hurricane would come, and somehow rip the necklace off my neck, I would be completely devastated. It is an infinite memory that will keep growing as long as I can spend time with my grandmother, and holds the greatest memories with my grandfather.

  21. there are a lot things that would make me sad if i were to lose them but only a few things would have me feeling devastated. however there is one in particular that would be the worst. this is all of my elementary school and childhood photos. they may not mean a lot to me now because i am still young and remember these days. but i know that when i mature and start to become an adult there will be many times that i will wish i had my photos with me so that i could look back on them.

  22. My one possession that would leave me devastated if it got destroyed would be my cottage. My cottage is my happy place. It's a place where I can go, unhook from everything and really enjoy life and nature. I think that it's important to have a place where you can rest and relax because life can be stressful at times. Watching the news and seeing all of the people who have lost their homes to the hurricanes makes me devastated to know that they have to completely rebuild their lives. I hope that nothing catastrophic ever happens the my happy place, my cottage:)

  23. If a hurricane were to hit montreal and I would only be able to save one possession I wouldn't be able to decide before the hurricane hits. I would be devastated to loose any one of my belongings. Many of my belongings I would be able to replace in the future. Although something that is irreplaceable are memories. By memories I am referring to a photo album. Throughout the years my mother would try to gather all the pictures and memories in a photo album and label them as the years go by. Losing all those precious memories in an instant would mean losing years of your life and you'd be unable to relive the great moment of your life. Meaning you'll have to start all over and won't be able to reflect on the good old days.

  24. If a hurricane came to where we live in Montreal and I could only save one thing. I would save my pet. I have a rabbit and i would find a way to save it. I would save it because I've had it since I was 10 and I got it for my 10th birthday. I love my rabbit and I play and feed and do all that stuff for it multiple times a day. The main reason that I would save my rabbit is because it is a living animal and almost everything else in my house could be replaced by just buying a new one.

  25. Something I can't live without is my music on my phone. It's important to me because I use it every day for a bunch of things. Every morning on the school bus I listen to my music because it's so loud on the bus. I listen to it when I do school work because when I listen to music I'm less distracted and more focused. I listen to my music before I go on the ice for ringette because it gets me pumped.I even sometimes listen to my music to help me fall asleep. Whenever I'm stressed, it's my number one go to I don't know what I would do without my music.
