The city of New Orleans was recently in the news for all the WRONG reasons.
A restaurant in the city is doing an experiment where they would CHARGE customers
based on their race (skin colour). White customers PAY MORE than black customers.
Do you think this is a smart experiment?
What do you think they are trying to find out?
Would you go to this restaurant?

i think that this is a good experiment in order to see the reactions of the costumers. it will show what people really think of others who have a different skin color. it will show there true colors and maybe say a few negative things they wouldn't normally say. i would go to this restaurant if is was a good one. if i didn't know about the experiment i would ask he waiter if he or she made a mistake in the cost. after they say no i would just pay the bill even though it wasn't fair that i had to pay more.

DeleteI believe that there are less demeaning ways of getting the information. I don't think this a great experiment because it could create some disagreements that could lead to worse things. I think they are trying to find out if white people would speak up if they sense that something isn't right. I din't think I would go to that restaurant now knowing that they do this.

DeleteI actually just heard about this new experiment this morning on the radio! I think that this experiment is pretty cool, although, I’m not 100% for it. The restaurant is trying to find out if white people will rebel against the rules and refuse to pay the extra money. Back in time black people had to put up with the inequalities between black and whites but they couldn’t do anything about it without getting in trouble. This experiment is giving white customers the chance to experience the injustice of paying more for the same food based on race. I find this experiment interesting but not necessary. We have evolved as humans and have decreased racism a lot. So why is it necessary to out of the blue make white people experience the injustice?

DeleteThis experiment is interesting, I personally don't know if I would go, not sure if yellows are to pay as much as Caucasians. I don't really see the purpose of this experiment is. I don't really see a purpose. I feel like nowadays it's all equal. Though I feel like heroic acts done by blacks seem to be a much bigger deal, why is there no white history month and only black history month.
ReplyDeleteI really don't agree. Black history month was made because we mistreated them for so long and now we should honour them. White people are great they don't have as hard of a history unlike black people.
DeleteI'm not sure what they're trying to do. Is it supposed to be racist towards the white community and how it feels to be ripped off...oooooooooohhhhhh. Nvm. My theory now is that they want white people to know what it's like to be neglected and to be ripped off by the color of their skin because ii was mainly black people who were being disfavored because of the color of their skin. I'm not sure why they did it in a restaurant rather than in a cinema theater or anywhere else. I guess that the person who wanted to do this only had a restaurant in his hand. I don't really approve of this not because it attacks white people but because it's just plain racism. I do hope that this experiment doesn't last forever.

DeleteI believe that this is a terrible and unacceptable experiment. What this restaurant is doing is valuing its white customers more than its black customer. They're saying that white people have a higher value and should pay more. It is unfair for the white customers because they have to pay a higher price, but it is also unfair for the black customers because it makes them feel less valuable and lower in the social hierarchy. This is very discriminating (to both skin colours) and the restaurant should be fined for this offense.

DeleteI think the restaurant wanted to show white customers what black people used to go through only a couple of decades ago. I don't believe this is the most effective way of projecting their message. I don't know how else they would but there probably is. If I would have known that this experiment was happening, I probably wouldn't go.

DeleteI understand what the restaurant was thinking, but I don't agree with it. I think racism of any kind should be in the past by now. It is the 21st century, and we are slowly making progress to becoming more accpeting of everybody. If more and more people start doing this, we will just be moving backwards rather than moving forwards into the future. I don't think that two wrongs make a right, and that is exactly what is happening here.

DeleteI actually think this was a cool experiment; but I hope they realize that what they're doing is still racist. Black people used to be treated like objects, and it was terrible. At the same time though, what they're doing is still racist and not proving that much of a point. I probably wouldn't go if I knew about the experiment; although I'm very interested about what they would say to me. I wonder in what way they would make it clear to me that I'm paying more than black people. I never heard anything on the news about it. When I first read the blog subject, I thought they were being racist and calling it an "experiment" as a half ass excuse. I don't totally understand so I'm going to read up about it now. Very interesting though!
ReplyDeleteI can totally understand their reasoning, but at one point, it really is just racism. Even if blacks were the ones who were treated badly in the past, that does not give a reason to discriminate whites. We live in a world now where everyone should be socially accepted and think that this restaurant is wrong. So no, I wouldn't want to support their research. My guess is that they are trying to show whites how it felt to be discriminated, but experiment or not, it is still racism.

DeleteI don't think is a good or smart experiment to do. Even though they flipped the normal and made white people pay more it's still not right. There is no reason to do a experiment like this. I really think they did it to white people could see how it felt to be the affected group. I would never go to a restaurant like that. I'm not just saying that because im white, im saying it because i would not support a place like that there is one reason to discriminate against any race.

DeleteFirstly, how do you even come up with something like this!! I definitely don’t like this experiment. It’s racist. Our world has fought for equal rights for races for so long, and then this happens. I think that the goal of this is to show the white customers how the black people feel or felt. They want to see if the white people will rebel because of this. I would not go to this restaurant because there is no point in doing so. Why go somewhere to pay more for a meal and get mistreated? I doubt that this restaurant will last very long!!

I can't see the reason why and I also don't think this is right in distancing the race. But at the same time, the experience could've also depended on what they're trying to find out. Like how people reacted to the price difference.

Which one is more likely to get angry? Which one is more likely to burn the place to the ground? What is the purpose of this experiment? In my opinion it is stupid.
ReplyDeleteI don't know how I would feel if I were involved with this experiment, solely because it's not morally correct, even for an experiment. I think that they're trying to find out how much racism still exists to this day. I think that racism should have ended a long, long time ago. The amount of racism that exists to this day is crazy. I don't think I would go to this restaurant because I don't want to pay my bill based off of my race/culture/nationality. I don't think many people would enjoy this experiment because they're being asked to pay money based off of their cultures/races/nationalities.

I do however think if it was the other way around, and the black costumers would need to pay more, it would become a huge racist thing. I think that the fact that they put the prices higher for white costumers has also its advantages. it shows how the black people felt and were treated differently during the times where they were inferior. ReplyDeleteI do not agree with this at all! This is really bad and I find it makes both black and white people feel uncomfortable about the situation. The restaurant is basically saying that white people have more money and have to pay more. This is racist. Racism still goes on today and this is proving it. I would never go to this restaurant. I find this so stupid and it puts everyone in an awkward and frustrating situation.

It sounds completely racist, why would they charge more to white customers when the food is the same thing, this sounds like a terrible idea that just sounds completely wrong, why would I go to a restaurant that would charge more to some people than others.

DeleteI’m not sure about this experiment . I think the concept of it is pretty interesting . They’re trying to portray the injustice that black people had to live through a long time ago and how they didn’t have the right to rebel against it. They’re trying to see how white people will react, in hopes of trying to make them more sympathetic towards black people by “put themselves in their shoes”. It’s a cool idea but I know people today are easily offended and could take it the wrong way. Are they even allowed to do this experiment though??

I think i understand the reasoning behind it to show how the blacks felt at times so now they reversed it so then the whites pay more for the same thing but it's completely racist and stupid. I would never go to this restaurant because i think equal rights are very important and something people have been fighting for years to get and this restaurant seems to show that problem of dividing these two groups of people and is still making one group feel inferior to the other.

I would go to this restaurant and prove my discomfort about paying more than the black folks, of course it's no an ethical dilemma but it does prove a point. I just wish they would make people sit at different spots are not be able to go to the bathroom instead of making someone pay more. Segregation is bad and we must avoid it at all costs, we have to be united and respect each other no matter your gender, your appearance, your religion, your neighborhood, your friends, your parents, your dreams, etc. Come together.
